“Fellowship, Camaraderie, Bonding, Renewing Friendship and Making New Ones are the priorities” Mr Wong Hung Khim.

After a hiatus of several years, and from the keen interest expressed by Victorians during our VS135 dinner in September 2011, old Victorians led by Tay Swee Sze and Christopher Tay initiated the effort to resurrect the golf event for the Wong Hung Khim Challenge Trophy under the auspices of the OVA.

Months of planning and support from many Victorians, sponsors and well-wishes led to a memorable day on the links and celebration at the gala dinner.

128 golfers and sponsors teed off on a sun-blessed day following days of afternoon thunderstorms (the traditional chilli/garlic combination apparently worked its magic to ward off the rain clouds). To many, the scores were immaterial as it was a day to bond and to meet old friends and new as Mr Wong Hung Khim so succinctly put it in his message as the Guest of Honour for the event.

The day of fellowship was rounded off with a dinner that stretched well past 10pm. Highlights in the evening were the award of the Wong Hung Khim Challenge Trophy to the eventual winner, Mr Kuah Hock Su, and a rousing rendition of the Victorian anthem to cap the day’s celebration.

The event raised a net total of $16,753 for the OVA in its continuing efforts to support students in VS and VJC.

Hopefully, the event will become a feature of the OVA calendar annually.
