It has been an exciting year for us at OVA. Earlier on, we had the Victoria135 dinner which was a tremendous success, raising awareness and funds for the GPS Fund. We profiled many of our familiar teachers. We had a song specially written for this occasion. We had volunteers from the school and alumni. We had many well-wishers from all walks of society. It was heart-warming to see all this culminate on the evening of the dinner.
During Victoria Challenge, we did a great car wash and Victorians, young and old, worked for 24 hours to raise funds for the Zion Home for the Aged. Some supporters drove in totally clean cars but which they wanted to have it “cleaned” again in order to support the cause!
In sports, soccer continues to draw in the alumni as they fight on the pitch every weekend. Rain or shine, these guys are always there. Soccer Challenge in March saw many teams battled it out for the trophy. Ultimately in the end, it was not about winning, it was about camaraderie. Kampung breakfasts brought teh tarik and roti prata to hungry alumni who usually talked the Sunday mornings away in the canteens of VS and VJC.
Elsewhere around the world, Victorians in Europe revamped their website, had trips, BBQs and their election. In China, Victorians in China had its first gathering and Beijingers were treated to the sight of “V” caps-wearing Victorians.
Our AGM in March saw us co-opting in some fresh and energetic faces. Our upcoming AGM in March 2012 will be an election AGM and we are looking forward to bringing in more. If you are keen to be a part of the Management Council and contribute to making a difference for the alumni of Victoria, please get in touch with us.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
