VS C Division football team beat Sengkang 4-1 in penalties after the game ended 1-1 after extra-time in today’s semi-final.
VS will be meeting Sports School in the National Schools finals on 5 Aug (Thurs), 4.30 pm, VJC.
This is VS 5th National Schools finals since 2006. In the first four finals, VS lost to Sports School all four times. We hope not to be 5th time unlucky this time.
Gather all your schoolmates and friends to give our boys all the support they need this Thursday!
Some observations from the semi-final
The VS goalkeeper seemed to kick the ball high up dropping not far enough rather than kick it far into the other half. Maybe that weakness was recognised early on in the game and the goal kick was then taken by an onfield player who was better in kicking the ball further. This long ball tactic was quite evident. There seemed to be no instance when the goalkeeper did a quick throw to a player to pass upfield.
The players appeared to be keen to get to the ball and then either head or kick forward on first touch rather than getting to the ball, bring under control and then pass on to another player to bring it forward. In other words, quite a lot of "aimless" kicking. Not enough possession and passing.
Well, they are only 13-14 year old boys. Whoever make the least mistake is likely to win the finals.
As football is the most competitive game in schools sports, it is not easy to get into the National finals. Having lost to Sports School in four previous finals in the last 5 years, this is our best chance to turn the tide. VJC will be some sort of 'homeground' for VS too. With strong spectator support, we may just be able to overcome Sports School who has the more talented players. Spread the word and get as many of your ex-school mates down to support the boys.
where can i park? inside vjc?
