We were that close. Now we have lost 5 National Schools finals to Sports School in the last 5 years!
Congrats to the young Victorians!
The boys should take pride in having got the school to qualify for the finals for this division, so many years in a row.
It is not easy for any team to match that of the SSP which is the nesting place for future professional footballers.
VS has been getting closer and closer to ousting the SSP and it is only a matter of time we do so, as our boys get better and better.
Penalties
1st shot hit the post.
2nd shot saved.
4th shot hit the bar.
Luck or skill ?
The team has progressed well, being 3rd in East Zone but improved to get into the final.
The Sports School team had better ball control, more one-two passing and better positioning.
VS team has a good goalkeeper.
2008 Lost 4-0
2009 Lost 3-1
2010 Drew 0-0 Lost by Penalties
2011 ?
VS has to have something more to beat Sports School. Keep on trying.
By the way, ACS (I) was finally dethroned by RI in the C Rugby final after being champions for more than a decade.
The Spirit lives on…
From Tyrwhitt, Kallang & Siglap…
Students, Teachers & even Parents of Victorians who have graduated…
They saw it…
They heard it…
They felt it…
We jumped when we missed a shot…
Our hearts jumped when we were in a spot…
For a while, I was back in the 70s…
For a while, I had no worries in the World…
For a while, all I cared was for Victoria…
Victorians, Thank you!!!
The spirit of the boys is tremendous. They beat strong team Hong Kah Sec 2-1, scoring with the last kick of the game and scored 2 goals in the last 5 min againt another strong team, Dunearn Sec, to draw 3-3.
However, when I saw the 1st 2 VS boys going up to take the penalties, I have a feeling that they may not score. They seem to lack the composure. Perhaps a sports psychologist is really needed. We lost too often in the finals and semi-finals: (1st – once, 2nd – 12 times)

In the semi-final, all the penatly takers scored.
In the final, the first shot hit the post and the second shot was saved. The final shot hit the bar and it was game over.
What a contrast !
What went wrong ?
The Sports School players were more composed and relax in taking penalties. The VS players were probably under much more pressure.
The training should include compulsory penalty taking practice after the boys are tired out at the end of every training session, if not already doing so, as the semi-finals and final this year were decided by penalties.

At the end of the day, the Sports School boys deserved the win. The entire team were made up of 12-13 year olds (Sec 1s), younger and less-developed in terms of physical strength and motor ability. I am a Victorian old boy but we have to give credit to the Sports School boys when credit is due.
Luck or skill decided the winners…you decide!
