TRIPLE GOOD NEWS!!!

1. Floorball

VS “C” Div Floorball team had emerged victorious as National Champion, beating Raffles Institution 2-0 in the final on 24/April/2009. It was a hard fought and thoroughly deserved victory. This is the school 2nd National title for the year.

2. Track & Field

VS “C” team had performed extremely well in the face of stiff competition from Sports School and the traditional TnF powerhouse Chinese High School. Besides giving Chinese High a run for their money by reducing their winning margin to only 18 pts, Prince Lau took over the sprint mantle from Sports School in the sprints, claiming Gold for both 100m and 200m.

VJC “A” Div Boys team came even closer to clinching the elusive 1st ever A Div boys title in the college history losing to RJC by only 3 pts (167 to 164) while the “A” Div Girls team is team overall 3rd. Congratulations to all the athletes for the great achievement.

    Congratulations!!!
    Congratulations!!!
    Congratulations!!!

Though I could'nt be present for the Floorball and Track Events, i managed to find time to be at VS, just before half time, in the pivotal game against Sports School.
I must add that the Team was resolute and focused, but what was most heartwarming were the Students, who led the cheerleading, even after we conceded both the equalisers.
They were still very vociferous with their cheers!!! BUT, NEVER once did we jeer our Opponents!!!
Even the S'pore Sports School Coach and the Referee, who officiated the Game, were appreciative of the cheerleading…

    Well done VS…
    Well done VS…
    Well done VS…

    Salute!!!

It's great to know that VS has a young sprinter Prince Leleon Lau who has been making waves in the national schools' track and field scene.

With his talent and the guidance of the VS sports staff, I am sure that Prince will turn out to be another gem of a sprinter, just like the greats of VS of the old days, such as Ali Ahmad, Low Wing Kee, Kesavan Soon, Low Sin Chock, Giang Toh Chye who had gone on to represent Singapore in the sprint events with great distinction.

My congratulations to all the other athletes who represented the school in the just concluded national schools' championships.

  • Great news indeed!

And they sure came at the right time.

    One question.
Why did the national TnF jump the clock this year?
It is usually held in July right?

Asian Youth Games will be held during 2H 2009; therefore all school sports have to be cleared before that.

  • Thanks!

Calvin Kang, a sprinter who transferred to S'pore Sports School in Sec 3 when it was set-up, was one of the 2 track n field athletes who represented Singapore at the Beijing Olympics 2008. The other athlete was China-born Zhang Guirong.

  • Victoria School in boys’ C Division hockey final after beating Jurong West on penalties

  • Final tentatively held on Wednesday, 12 August at Sengkang

  • is the hockey finals on 12 aug open to members of the public or is there restricted admission in light of the flu containment, as was the case of the b div soccer finals? thanks

  • Reply to oldboyvs,
I see if I can find out your question.

    Date: 12 August (Wed)
Venue: Sengkang Sports and Recreational Centre
    Girls' final: 3 pm
Boys' final: 4.30 pm, Victoria vs Sengkang or Teck Whye

  • Only information I have is that VS will be meeting Teck Whye in the finals. The semi-finals were opened to the public. Not sure if they will do the same for the finals. Hopefully they do.

  • Victoria School claims its C Division Hockey Title after 17 years. Victoria School C Division Hockey Team beat Teck Whye Secondary 2-1 to claim the title. The C division soccer semi finals have been postponed to next friday.

  • It should not be 17 years. VS won the C Divison 11-a-side in 82, 87, 89 and 90. And won the C Division 6-a-side in 92, 2003 and 2009.
