The Old Victorians’ Association (OVA) is pleased to announce the formation of a new Management Council after the successful completion of the Annual General Meeting which saw a smooth change of leadership.

Mr Vernon Teo, former First Vice President of OVA, has been unanimously elected as the new President of the Council, taking over from Mr Teo Ser Luck who stepped down after a successful two-year term. Successions also took place at other levels with the election of a new First Vice President Kevin Lam and Second Vice President Chris Chong. Mr Quak Hiang Whai stepped down as Second Vice President but will remain in the council as its spokesman.

The Council also welcomes new management member Thomas Goh who came in as Honorary General Treasurer. New management members also include LTC Chua Eng Kiat, the new Social Secretary, Mr. Ganessaraj Soocelaraj, the new Sports Secretary, Ms Carol Loo, the new Honorary General Assistant Treasurer.

Chan Joo Peng, current Assistant Honorary Secretary, was named the new Honorary General Secretary with Mr. Mohamed Rabeek, current council member as the new Honorary General Assistant Secretary. Mr. Lee Chun Wye, Deputy General Manager of Soilbuild Goup Holdings Ltd also joined the council as a member.

With the smooth succession, OVA would like to thank Mr Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and Ministry of Transport, for his valuable leadership and contribution in the last two years. Mr Teo was instrumental in installing the previous council and led the organizing committee in the landmark 130th Anniversary Dinner in 2006.

Mr Teo said: “Though this is a newly elected council, most of the members are not new and have been with OVA council in the last term. Under the new leadership of Vernon Teo and with the experience of his strong team, I am confident the new council would be able to strengthen and enhance the Victorian network. I urge all Victorians, both existing and alumni members, to continue to support them.”

Commenting on his election, the newly elected OVA President, Mr Vernon Teo said: “I am heartened to see more people stepping forward to join the council, taking time from their busy schedules to make that contribution to the schools. We will continue to expand our efforts to raise funds for OVA activities and programmes, to support the student welfare and development for both Victoria School and Victoria Junior College. Expanding efforts to widen the OVA network of alumni members and the Victorian family would be a top priority.” Mr Teo said.

The results of the latest AGM underscored the successful efforts by the OVA to continue to build on its management strength and continued plans for smooth succession. The council is pleased to be able to co-opt eight new members into the enlarged committee with 13 of the original council members continue to serve in the committee to provide the necessary support and continuity. The latest OVA election also saw the addition of four other ladies as Council Members. They are Ms Tan Soo Ling, Ms Chuah Sue Huay and Ms Sara Fong Phui San. Together with Ms Carol Loo May San, they will provide a fresh and valuable perspective to the alumni, especially to extend the scope of OVA activities towards the female cohort of both Victoria School and Victoria Junior College.
