Victoria Challenge 2007

Hi all,

I am John Cheo from the class of 2006. As many of you would have known by now, our alma mater is celebrating her 131st glorious anniversary on July 14th. Leading up to it will be the unique tradition of our school – the once-every4-years Victoria Challenge, during which Victorians from all levels will be busying themselves over completing a tedious and demanding “Challenge” that will see them stretching their potential. It will be a 24hr event, starting at 9am on July 12th. OVA President Teo Ser Luck will officially launch this year’s VC.

Having experienced our first VC in 2003, my peers and I are thrilled at this opportunity to contribute back to VS by participating once again for this time’s VC. We first thought about this idea late March and after much discussion and admittedly, procrastination, we have finally sought, and received, the school’s endorsement for our proposal.

In essence, we will be selling yellow/red tiles to raise funds for VS, the most constructive way of contributing back to the school that has watched us grow. These tiles will be pieced side by side to become photoframes of 8 different photographs, each linked to one of our school’s core values. Some of the photos will be taken by ourselves.

Each tile will be going for an approximate $10.00 and the target is to sell at least 131 tiles, resulting in a donation amount of at least $1,310, all in relation to the symbolic no. “131” this year. You will be able to sign on the tiles some words of best wishes for the school or simply, your name. Take this chance to leave a form of “physical legacy” in VS! We will also most probably work towards getting a place in the school compound to permanently display the completed product, all “decorated” in a way or another by you and I.

The old boys will be back in VS on 13 July, and we are appealing for your help and contribution to make this pursuit to contribute back to VS a success. We believe the Victorian Spirit will prevail and we will be able to meet our target.

Please help us spread the word to your batchmates/friends in VS about this project that we are embarking on. AND MORE IMPORTANTLY! BE A DONOR!

There are 2 ways you can help:

(i) Be in VS on July 13th (preferably after 3pm) and “purchase” the tile on the spot
(ii) Make your interest/desire in donating known via email (to “ilovekelis@gmail.com”) or cell phone (98230565).

Pre-orders are possible and we look forward to the Old Victorians’ overwhelming support!

If you wish to help out in more direct ways, please contact me at 98230565 too.

Thank you and NIL SINE LABORE.

Since VC 2007 has finally ended on a glorious close, I felt it imperative that I share with all concerned about the fantastic outcome of the old boys' project.

Our "Tile" project has officially collected $1,730 in donations, through the "Sale" of our yellow/red-colored tiles! Thanks to all Victorians, past and present, who supported us in one way or another. Special thanks to passionate Old Victorians like Jafnie (class of 2005), Jonathan Samraj (class of 2004), amongst others. Notably, Mdm Kwok Siew Eng personally bought a total of 18 tiles (i.e 18 X $10 = $180!). The support from the VSPSG has been overwhelming too.

The beneficiaries of our small token are still being worked out by the core team. But rest assured that governed by the core value of Integrity, every cent will go toward contributing to VS.

The completed photographs and frames are currently, and temporarily displayed in the school's Heritage Centre. Victorians interested to view them are more than welcomed to do so.

May the Victorian Spirit continue to burn strong within each and every single one of us, and thanks once again to all well-wishers. God bless!

    Nil Sine Labore.
