Brief Match Report: 7 April 2007, Saturday 1700hrs

OVA Soccer Section played an Invitation game at the Padang, fielding no less than 17 players in total. Resplendent in their bright yellow jerseys and black shorts, OVA started well and scored first – a brilliant measured lob by striker Alan Tham over the onrushing keeper from 22m borne out of a visonary through pass by Zainuddin. The OVA team was facing an SRC comprising of seasoned campaigners and despite playing with each other for only the first time in a match game, we acquitted ourselves well and actually outplayed SRC until close to the end of the first half when we conceded an unfortunate ‘soft’ goal. Kwang Hock added his name to the scoresheet for OVA with a 25m freekick into the top right corner from left and earned a penalty after being brought down in the box. Not bad for a 51 yearer.

The game eventually ended 5-3 in favour of SRC as many of the OVA players had run out of steam before the second half ended.

Overall, it was a very encouraging turnout and an even better work out as every one had minutes on the fabled Padang pitch.

The guys had a round of Victorian bonding over drinks and finger food at SRC thereafter.

Much appreciation for Ken Loy and Ben Foo for organising this round.

We will post updates of forthcoming matches and a detail namelist of players as we build up this topic.

Post Match Comments:
Should play together more often and eventually build up 2 OVA teams. Lots of interaction and friendly banter, with the occasional dialect greetings exchanged on the field of play (Chris Chong – OVA Sports Sec)

Seeing you guys having so much fun made me feel like joining in (Ken Loy – Referee)
